Azra, a young queer actress in Canada, is in constant conflict with her mother, Mariam. The two frequently argue, with Mariam, a conservative woman who emigrated from Pakistan with her husband, disapproving of Azra’s life, especially the fact that she is living with another woman. However, after the sudden death of her father, Azra travels to Pakistan, where she gradually uncovers her mother’s past and begins to better understand her own identity. „The Queen of My Dreams“ is a heartfelt and highly entertaining story about a young Canadian woman who, after a tragic event, begins searching for her cultural roots in order to foster understanding and reconciliation across generations within her own family.

FAWZIA MIRZA ist eine kanadische Filmemacherin, Schauspielerin, Anwältin und Aktivistin pakistanischer Herkunft. Neben verschiedenen Kurzfilmen und Webserien hat sie u.a. an der ersten queer-muslimischen Romanze im US-Fernsehen mitgearbeitet. Fawzia selbst definiert sich als „lesbische, muslimische, pakistanische Schauspielerin, Aktivistin, Schriftstellerin, Produzentin, Anwältin und leidenschaftliche Person“.
