End 1970s. Five years ago, Joe and Kate from London moved to a rural Irish community where Joe had grown up. Here, far from the hustle and bustle of the big city, both experience a deep sense of contentment. They are full of optimism and live in harmony with the seasons. Joe is a writer, Kate is a photographer, artist, and co-owner of a London gallery. Since most of the young people have left the village to work elsewhere, the remaining residents are mostly older and sometimes rather quirky personalities. Even though it seems like nothing happens in this idyll, life in this small village is anything but dull and monotonous... Based on the novel of the same name by John McGahern, director Pat Collins creates a contemplative and touching portrayal of an isolated community in Ireland during the end of the 70s.
