D 1959 | 102 Min. | DF In memory to Bernhard Wicki
April 1945. World War II is in its final phase. In a small German town, seven boys receive their draft notices. At the request of their teacher, the responsible officer assigns them to guard duty at a strategically insignificant town bridge. Shortly after, the seven friends find themselves completely on their own. Guided by the virtues instilled in them from an early age - duty and obedience - they engage in a hopeless battle against the overwhelming enemy forces advancing with tanks. The result is the inevitable catastrophe...
