In the middle of the endless expanse of the Atacama Desert, young Carola dreams of a life by the sea. But everyday life with her father Pacifico is merciless: together they run an illegal mine and guard a dangerous secret – a vein of gold that they secretly mine at night. One of the other miners discovers the hidden discovery and the situation escalates into violence. Pacifico is seriously injured and Carola has to take his place. But can she stand up to the hostility of the men‘s world and her own fears?

JUAN OLEA begann seine Karriere als Regisseur von Videoclips, Kurzfilmen und experimentellen Videos, die auf Filmfestivals in Chile gezeigt wurden. 2014 führte er Regie bei dem Spielfilm „The Lamb“, der auf den Filmfestivals von Biarritz, Havanna und San Francisco gezeigt und beim Internationalen Filmfestival von Santiago für die beste Regie ausgezeichnet wurde. 2017 führte er Regie bei der Fernseh-Miniserie „Pega Martín Pega“. Der Neo-Western “Bitter Gold“ ist sein zweiter Spielfilm.
