BENTLEY DEAN ist freischaffender Regisseur und Kameramann. 1997 war er Teilnehmer der Race Around the World-Serie, bei der Dokumentarfilmer während 100 Tagen mit ihrer Kamera um die Welt reisen, um am Ende eine 4-minütige Dokumentation zu präsentieren. 2009 begann seine Zusammenarbeit mit Martin Butler. Ihre Dokumentarfilmarbeiten wurde mit zahlreichen Filmpreisen ausgezeichnet. „Tanna“ ist ihr erstes Spielfilmprojekt.
MARTIN BUTLER studierte Politikwissenschaften und Wirtschaft an der Universität von Oxford. 1981 ging er nach Australien, wo er die folgenden 25 Jahre lang preisgekrönte Dokumentarfilme für die ABC-Serien „Four Corners“ und „Foreign Correspondent“ sowie die SBS-Serie „Dateline“ drehte.
