What do we really know about North Korea? The pictures we know are always the same: military parades with tanks and missiles, soldiers of both sexes marching like robots, threats of war, famines, regimented children and of course the three generations of dictators and their hysterically sycophantic followers. Director Sung-Hyung Cho has created a portrait of the people behind the stubborn clichés and stereotypes of a misunderstood country.

Sung-Hyung Cho
wurde 1966 in Busan, Südkorea, geboren und studierte in Seoul Kommunikationswissenschaften. 1990 kam sie nach Deutschland, wo sie ein Studium der Kunstgeschichte, Medienwissenschaften und Philosophie in Marburg absolvierte. Sie arbeitete als Cutterin und leitet Seminare am Filmhaus Frankfurt und am SAE Institute. Ihr erster Langfilm, die Dokumentation „Full Metal Village“, wurde u.a. mit dem Max Ophüls-Preis ausgezeichnet. 2009 feierte ihr zweiter Film „Endstation der Sehnsüchte“ seine Premiere auf der Berlinale.
